Silence resides deep within each of us. And when we consciously make contact with this silence, as in meditation, for instance, the mind relaxes. A deep sense of peace envelopes us. We are home. Nowhere to go. Nothing to do. Simply abiding in this Presence becomes all-fulfilling.
This silent presence is supremely intelligent. As our meditation deepens, we change as karma burns and old patterns drop away. New insights flash before us. We realize we are not the body, but pure consciousness itself, eternal and timeless.
In a mentoring session, we will often begin by meeting in this silence: the space between the thoughts, between the breaths… the liminal place before all form. We rest here together for a moment and then…Presence reveals itself and becomes our shared numinous field of awareness.
Now, our mentoring session is infused with and guided by the unfathomable intelligence of the higher mind. Your soul is put in charge as you share your story, and whether you are expressing doubt or angst, and we are addressing this shadow or some blessing you have recently enjoyed, it is all perfect.
It is my honor to hold space for you as I allow this higher field of intelligence and wisdom to move through me as well, and I offer my response and feedback with humility.
Such is the power of surrender to the inner silence of our true nature. As we work together, this silence will begin to move more and more to the foreground of your awareness. Your life choices will begin to be informed by the wisdom of this silence. Eventually, as it grows in you and you become intimate with it, my guidance will no longer be needed, as this silent field of pure awareness becomes your teacher.
In a conversation last week during our Wednesday night meditation/support circle someone expressed her frustration with her meditation practice because sometimes an issue from her day pops into her awareness and her mind begins processing it. She asked, “Isn’t there a value to meditating “on” an issue that surfaces in the mind?”
I shared that there is an important distinction to be drawn between meditating into the silence by intentionally quieting the mind, and meditating “on” a problem seeking a resolution, which more accurately could be called contemplation. The best approach is to allow space for both, as they both have value, but to maintain them as distinct activities. Quieting the mind in silent meditation is the more powerful use of your time, as the Unified Field of Pure Awareness that we connect with can provide us with the answers we seek spontaneously – in or out of meditation. Universal Intelligence knows exactly how to “speak” to us to provide us with the answers we seek.
